The original theory of catharsis that underpins everything Amy does.
John Heron's landmark work established that human beings are physiologically designed to discharge emotional distress — through sobbing, trembling, laughter, and movement. He called this catharsis, and he argued that our entire society is built to suppress it.
His central thesis: when grief, fear, and anger cannot discharge through the body, they don't disappear. They encode into the nervous system as chronic psychosomatic tension — distorting behaviour, beliefs, and identity in ways the conscious mind cannot fully access or resolve.
This is why top-down healing — therapy, journaling, mindset work — takes decades. You are using the conscious 3–5% of your brain to try to resolve something living in the other 97%. Heron's model works from the bottom up: discharge the stored distress through the body first, and insight, clarity, and behavioural change follow naturally and spontaneously.

Dr. Stephen Porges' Polyvagal Theory — developed over decades and extensively validated through peer-reviewed research — explains exactly why women feel chronically overwhelmed, anxious, reactive, and disconnected from themselves.
When basic human needs are chronically frustrated, the autonomic nervous system becomes measurably dysregulated. The body locks into survival states — fight, flight, or freeze — and loses access to the ventral vagal state associated with safety, connection, and calm. This is not a mindset problem.
